Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers were introduced on 16th May 2019, and subscribers were able to purchase two vouchers for £84.00/$99.99. Users with an active and paid Nintendo Switch Online membership could purchase and redeem the vouchers. A user cannot purchase more than eight active vouchers, and they can be redeemed within a year of purchase.

These vouchers were useful for slashing the prices of games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Splatoon 3, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Fire Emblem Engage.

Why is Nintendo Ditching Switch Game Vouchers?

Nintendo has not given an official reason for the discontinuation of Switch Game Vouchers. Furthermore, the team has thanked players for their participation and reminded them that their unused vouchers will expire within 12 months of purchase.

Users need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to redeem the game voucher. The game voucher expiry date cannot be extended if they do not have an active membership. Moreover, Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for Nintendo Switch 2 games.

The news has disappointed Nintendo fans worldwide, and they were surprised by such an unprecedented step. Nintendo fans said that Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers have been discontinued due to the introduction of Switch 2. Many also thought that the reason behind the ditch could be that the vouchers are no longer feasible for the company.
